Cattle Sales FAQ
Q: What is included in your cattle sales photography packages?
A: Cattle Sale packages include a minimum of a profile photo and video of each animal. Basic editing and corrections are included in the overall cost.
Q: What if the weather is bad during the shoot?
A: I am experienced in handling various weather conditions and will adapt as needed. If severe weather impacts the event significantly, we can discuss rescheduling options.
Q: How long will it take to receive the photos after the shoot?
A: The typical turnaround time is 1-2 weeks depending on the season. I also offer rush processing for an additional fee if you need your photos sooner.
Q: Are there travel fees for shoots outside your local area?
A: Travel fees may apply for sales located outside a certain radius from my location. We will discuss any applicable fees during the booking process.
Q: How should I best prepare for picture day?
A: Have plenty of help - Ideally, two people at the chute cleaning up cattle, two people in the picture pen, and one person floating to make sure everything is moving fluidly. That's five, plus me, to get started.
If doing pictures on the halter, have them broke.
Have all cattle washed, dried and clipped out the day before so only spot washing and minor clipping are all that is required the day of pictures. It's best to have at least 3-4 ready to rock when I arrive.
Q: What about the picture pen?
A: Ideally the picture pen is close by to the barn on really hot days. Overheated cattle rarely picture well.
Pen size of 80' x 80' to 100' x 100' is ideal to give everyone space - less unwanted pressure on cattle. An oval pen is best to keep cattle from sitting in the corners.
Be sure to choose (if you have the option) an area where the backdrop has minimal to no distracting elements. Additionally, cattle look best when there is about 3-5" of grass; Other options include straw, corn stalks, any type of bedding they don't want to eat.
Fencing - Metal fencing, matching aluminum panels around the perimeter, or 4-5 strand hot fence work best for cattle. With hot fence, I do not recommend it for flighty cattle or those not use to it. For cattle that get over-stressed, they are best to save for last.
Last but not least, have a bait heifer/cow/steer/donkey in the pen with us. This calms the cattle and lets them see something in the direction that we need in order to snap a photo. It also works extremely well for getting video footage on anything that doesn't want to walk and where we need them to.
